The New Generation HONDA FC SPORT

Honda revealed the Honda FC Sport design study model, a hydrogen-powered, three-seat sports car concept, at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The FC Sport emphasizes the design flexibility and potential of Honda’s V Flow fuel cell technology – already deployed in the Honda FCX Clarity sedan – and reconfigures it into a lightweight sports car design with an ultra-low center of gravity, powerful electric motor performance and zero-emissions. The design study concept is inspired by supercar levels of performance through low weight and a high-performance, electrically driven fuel cell powertrain.
“The Honda FC Sport explores how to satisfy automotive performance enthusiasts in a world beyond petroleum,” said Dan Bonawitz, vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “People who love sports cars will still have a reason to love in a hydrogen-powered future.”

The high-output Honda fuel cell powertrain and a sleek, aerodynamic body contribute to the vehicle’s performance potential. A modular approach to fuel cell component packaging and the electric drivetrain contribute to the FC Sport’s low center of gravity with the majority of vehicle mass distributed between the axles, creating the balanced weight distribution sought after in sports cars.
The ideal placement of the Honda V-Flow fuel cell stack and related components demonstrates the benefits of a platform-specific, hydrogen-powered fuel cell powertrain. The FC Sport is configured to accommodate a custom-formed high-power fuel cell stack, located between the rear seats, and a battery pack placed low in the middle of the vehicle. The electric motor resides just forward of the rear axle. Two fuel storage tanks, visible from above, are located above the rear axle.

The optimal placement of fuel cell components for performance also allows for a relatively large passenger cabin by conventional supercar standards with enough space for three seating positions. The interior layout focuses primarily on the driver with a racecar-like center driving position. The enclosed canopy opens upward from the rear to allow for entry and exit. Two rear passenger seats flank the driver’s left and right side.
The sleek, low-profile body is designed to convey a high-technology appearance with sculpting that combines angular shapes in the front of the vehicle that taper into geometric, hex forms in the rear. The rear hex forms house cooling radiators for the fuel cell. Formula 1-style barge boards behind the front wheels enhance high speed aerodynamics and convey the vehicle’s racing pedigree. The hydrogen storage tanks, visible from the rear deck, showcase the FC Sports fuel cell technology in much the same way that a “naked bike” motorcycle showcases its engineering technology.

The glacier white body color conveys the FC Sport’s clean environmental aspirations while the dark wheels and deeply tinted glass provide a symbolic contrast befitting of the vehicle’s unique combination of clean power and high performance. Green construction techniques further contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. An organic, bio-structure theme is carried through to the body construction where exterior panels are intended to use plant-derived bio-plastics.

The Advanced Design Studio of Honda R&D Americas, in Pasadena, California, developed the FC Sport design study with the primary objective of using existing fuel cell technology as the basis for an ultimate Honda sports car. Designer Jason Wilbur led the design efforts.

Why it’s important:The very elegant A7 is designed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS.
Platform:It’s based on the next generation Audi A6,which will have its longitudinally mounted engine set farther back to improve weight distribution.
Powetrain:The A7 will shareits engines with the upcoming A6.That means a 3.2-liter naturally aspired direct-injection V-6 with at least 265 horsepower and a new turbocharged 3.0-liter powerplant making 300 horsepower.Later,as S7 is planned with a 5.2 V-10 FSI engine and 460 horses.A six-speed automatic as well as the DSG will mate with Audi;s Quatttro system.

Ford Korea has released the 2009 Lincoln MKS to the South Korean market today. The MKS is the flagship model of the Lincoln Korea line-up, which also consists of the MKX crossover and MKZ sedan.

The MKS packs a plethora of premium features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, SecuriCode™ keyless entry, Adaptive HID Headlamps, Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel-Filler System, voice-activated Microsoft SYNC™ infotainment system, and THX II-grade 12-channel 16-speaker 600-watt premium sound system with 10-inch subwoofer. The MKS is powered by a new 3.7L Duratec V6 that churns out 277 horsepower. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Perhaps the most attractive and groundbreaking part of the MKS is its retail price. The MKS is priced at 55.2 million Won (USD$42,856), which is a shattering blow to the import and domestic luxury car segment in Korea. Comparatively, the Ssangyong Chairman W(w/ 3.6L 250 hp) goes for 63 million Won, Hyundai Genesis BH330 (w/ 3.3L 262 hp) for 55 million Won, and GM Daewoo Veritas (w/ 3.6L 252 hp) for over 58 million Won.

Introduction to the Redesigned Cerato

Kia Motors debuted the redesigned Cerato for the Australian market at the Sydney Motor Show today. Dubbed the Forte in the car’s home market of South Korea, the Cerato for the land of Down Under will be available in a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine initially.

Kia announced a sales date of early 2009 for the Cerato. Officials stated that the company is still finalizing the specifications and pricing of the Cerato.

Specifications of the New Borrego FCEV

Kia premiered its next-generation fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) system fitted on the new Borrego at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. A number of improvements have allowed the system to develop an additional 47HP compared to the previous FCEV powertrains bumping peak output to 154HP.

With a 202-liter hydrogen storage tank located underneath the Borrego and ahead of the rear wheels, Kia’s latest research vehicle has a range of about 426 miles. The top speed of the Borrego FCEV is 100 mph (160 km/h) while the vehicle accelerates from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h( in 12.8 sec. Kia also claims a ‘best-in-class system efficiency of 62 percent’ which translates to 54 mpg U.S.

“Entering this new phase of our program is really exciting,” said Dr. Hyun Soon Lee, president of research and development for the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group. “Now we will be able to build fuel cell electric vehicles in higher volumes and lower cost for fleet testing and the latest Borrego FCEV drives us closer to making fuel cell vehicles available for consumers.”

Cars.com recently posted a stunning gallery of high-resolution images of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. What is probably even better is that the rear-wheel drive coupe is coated in an equally attractive black paint. Although the front-end and the Genesis nomenclature might raise some conflicts, the Genesis Coupe looks to be another success for Hyundai – if marketed right.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is slated to go on sale in America in spring of 2009. It will be available in two powertrains: a 212 horsepower 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder that will cater mainly to the vast tuner crowd, and a 306 horsepower 3.8L V6. Body kits, there are a very small amount of cars that can get away with a standard body and still turn heads but as in the case of most cars if your want a really good sporty and custom look from your car your going to have to kit it.

Depending on what car you own you may have a large amount of different body kits available to you, but if your are making a custom car that is not commonly modified then you are going to have to venture in to the world of customised body work.

Luckily there is hope for cars that don’t have body kits produced for your car, there are body shops that will take a kit designed for a different car and make it fit on to your ride.

The main draw back of doing this is cost not only do you have to buy the kit you will also have to pay for the time and efforts of your body shop to customise and fit your kit then your will also incur the cost of a full re-spray to get the car up to scratch.

If your are lucky enough to have a kit that fits right on to your car you may be able to kit your car up for under £1000 painted but if your are going for a customised look your may need to save up in the region of £3000 +, I know it is a hefty amount but the end results are well worth the money.
